Anthony Manning stumbled upon and fell in love with the sounds and production values of electronic music while studying graphic design at the Falmouth School of Art, 89 - 91. His own thoughts were initially sketched out as graphic shapes on graph paper. After buying a Roland R8 drum machine, the ideas process exploded as a consequence of investigating the machine's editing facilities : four pieces materialised out of the initial excitement, and were released as the Elastic Variations ep on Irdial. Since that first release in 1994, Anthony has been experimenting with electronics to create music that has happily sat outside the conventions associated with the medium. The results have met with some critical acclaim, a little bemusement, and occassional hostility.
Shortly after completing the Concision lp in 1997 his studio was broken into and most of the equipment stolen. This event, together with the fact that life has taken several unforseen but welcome turns, meant that the experimentation was neglected until 2000, when circumstances allowed for the resumption of tinkering. The results were released as a 4-track ep, Liquid Quartz.
Although most of his time is currently spent fine-tuning and improving a web-based task timer, adderuppa, he still tinkers with the many ideas that are in hibernation. To be kept up to date with news of the results, click here.
